Install Upgrading Meta Imaging Series 6.0 to 6.1

Instructions for Upgrading of Meta Imaging Series 6.0 to 6.1

In order to ensure that the installation onto your imaging system goes as smoothly as possible, we ask that you take the following steps prior to installing Meta Imaging Series 6.1 Software.

You must turn on all of the peripherals connected to your imaging workstation prior to updating the software to version 6.1. This includes any cameras, filter-wheels, automated microscopes (that are controlled via Meta Imaging Series sotfware), Z-motors, stages, etc.

Before Installation

1. Operating System

The preferred operating system for Meta Imaging Series 6.1 is Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP3 or Windows XP Professional SP1 or greater. The software will not run under Windows 95, Windows Millennium, Windows 98, or Windows NT.

Meta Imaging Series Software is not supported under any Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server version.

2. Backup

Back up your existing Meta Imaging Series installation. Typically, this can be done by recording the c:\mm directory to a CD-R.

3. Configuration Files

Using MetaMorph or MetaFluor, make sure that any protocol files, spatial calibrations, Integrated Morphometry Analysis settings, state files, or other configurations have been saved to a file using the "Save" button in each appropriate dialog box. For Multi-User configurations, each user must save their settings.

4. Acquisition Settings

Using the Meta Series Administrator, open up the configuration dialog for each camera that you have installed and make careful note of the configuration settings. Should a power loss or other unforeseeable mishap cause the installation of your new version to be interrupted, it may be necessary for you to re-configure your cameras using this information.

5. Updates

Check the Meta Imaging Series Updates web site at www.meta.moleculardevices.com for any updates to your version and download them, to have them available for installation once the software has been installed. You can also view release notes (what's new) on this web site.

6. If You Need Further Assistance...

As always, if you run into any problems during the installation process or you want some advice prior to performing the installation, please contact your local sales representative.

If you do not know how to contact your local Meta Imaging Series representative, please refer to the Dealer Locator on our Website under the Sales menu.

Begin the installation of Meta Imaging Series 6.1

To install MetaMorph, insert your Meta Imaging Series CD into your CDROM drive. If the Installation Menu does not appear after a minute, select "Run" from the Start" menu and type d:\uicmenu.exe (where d is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).

  1. Click Install Meta Imaging Series 6.1 to begin the installation.
  2. Click Proceed.
  3. This dialog may or may not be displayed, depending on whether Windows needs to be updated to the versions required by Meta Imaging Series. If you see this dialog, click Update Windows to continue.
  4. Click Accept if you accept the License Agreement for the Meta Imaging Series Installer.
  5. MetaMorph and MetaVue, in 6.1, offer a feature called the Image Browser. The Image Browser maintains and displays a collection of thumbnails, which are small representations of the images in your system.

The thumbnails and the related image information are stored in an SQL database managed by the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE). MSDE is the free version of Microsoft SQL Server, and is small enough that it can be installed on each personal computer on which it needs to be used.

The Meta Imaging Series 6.1 Installer automatically installs and configures MSDE Service Pack 3 for you, but you should only do this if there are no other database applications installed on your system using SQL Server. If you already have some form of SQL database on your computer, then when prompted, you should not allow the Meta Imaging Series Installer to install MSDE. This is to prevent any conflicts with the existing SQL server configuration.

Click YES, if you want to Install the MSDE with Service Pack 3 and then continue at step #6. Or, click No to continue with the installation without installing the MSDE and proceed to step #11.
  6. Click OK to confirm installing the MSDE.
  7. While the MSDE is installing, the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine progress dialog will be displayed.
  8. Click YES after the MSDE is finished installing to restart the computer.
  9. Click Proceed to continue with the installation after the system has restarted.
  10. Click Accept if you accept the License Agreement for the Meta Imaging Series Installer.
  11. Insert your Code Floppy and click Retrieve Code from Floppy Disk. Confirm the system's Owner Name and Affiliation and Click Next.
  12. Select the Upgrade Options and Click Ok.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Select the Program Group, and then click Next.
  15. Confirm the Installation Options and when you are ready to begin the installation, Click Install.
  16. The MIS 6.1 Installer setup progress will be displayed during the installation.
  17. Click Close.
  18. After the installation is complete, the Meta Imaging Series Administrator program is displayed. You can configure your Hardware Setting, Drop-ins, etc. now, or choose to do it later. Click OK to complete the Installation.
  19. Use the Meta Imaging Series Updater utility to install the update you previously downloaded.
