Instructions for Installation of Meta Imaging Series 6.1

In order to ensure that the installation onto your imaging system goes as smoothly as possible, we ask that you take the following steps prior to installing Meta Imaging Series Software.

Before Installation

1. Operating System

The preferred operating system for Meta Imaging Series 6.1 is Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP3 or Windows XP Professional SP1 or greater. The software will not run under Windows 95, Windows Millennium, Windows 98, or Windows NT.

Meta Imaging Series Software is not supported under any Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server version.

2. Updates

Check the Meta Imaging Series Updates web site at www.meta.moleculardevices.com for any updates to your version and download them, to have them available for installation once the software has been installed. You can also view release notes (what's new) on this web site.

3. Do you have a USB Memory Key?

If you have a USB Memory Key, you must not have the key plugged in when you start up the installation program. This is because the installation program will update the key drivers, and if the USB key is present, it may be erased during the driver update. An erased key will have to be RMA'd, causing lost time and the expense of shipping. Once the installation program has finished updating the drivers, it will ask you for the key, and the USB key may be inserted at that time.

Begin the installation of Meta Imaging Series 6.1

To install MetaMorph, insert your Meta Imaging Series CD into your CDROM drive. If the Installation Menu does not appear after a minute, select "Run" from the Start" menu and type d:\uicmenu.exe (where d is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).

NOTE: DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR USB KEY UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY THE INSTALLER!!! If you have already plugged in your key, then remove it now.

Please note that the following instructions have been researched and tested to be the preferred method of installing MIS 6.1 with the USB drivers required by the Key. Other methods can be used, but they can render the system unable to use the USB key and therefore unable to run the Meta Imaging Software.

1. Click Install Meta Imaging Series 6.1 to begin the installation.
   
2. Click Proceed.
   
3. This dialog may or may not be displayed, depending on whether Windows needs to be updated to the versions required by Meta Imaging Series. Click Update Windows to continue.
   
4. After the system files have been updated the computer needs to be restarted. Click Yes.
   
5. Click Proceed to continue with the installation after the system has restarted.
   
6. Click Accept if you accept the License Agreement for the Meta Imaging Series Installer.
   
7. Click OK to begin installing the drivers for your Memory Key.
   
8. Click YES after the drivers have been installed to restart the Computer.
   
9. Click Proceed to continue with the installation after the system has restarted.
   
10. Click Accept if you accept the License Agreement for the Meta Imaging Series Installer.
    
11. MetaMorph and MetaVue, in 6.1, offer a feature called the Image Browser. The Image Browser maintains and displays a collection of thumbnails, which are small representations of the images in your system.

    The thumbnails and the related image information are stored in an SQL database managed by the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE). MSDE is the free version of Microsoft SQL Server, and is small enough that it can be installed on each personal computer on which it needs to be used.

    The Meta Imaging Series 6.1 Installer automatically installs and configures MSDE for you, but you should only do this if there are no other database applications installed on your system using SQL Server. If you already have some form of SQL database on your computer, then when prompted, you should not allow the Meta Imaging Series Installer to install MSDE. This is to prevent any conflicts with the existing SQL server configuration.

    Click YES if you want to Install the MSDE with Service Pack 3 and then continue at step #12. Or, click No to continue with the installation without installing the MSDE and proceed to step #17.
    
12. Click OK to confirm installing the MSDE.
    
13. While the MSDE is installing, the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine progress dialog will be displayed.
    
14. Click YES after the MSDE is finished installing to restart the computer.
    
15. Click Proceed to continue with the installation after the system has restarted.
    
16. Click Accept if you accept the License Agreement for the Meta Imaging Series Installer.
    
17. You will see an Error message that the Memory Key can't be read. Don't press OK yet, instead, insert your USB key.
    
18. When the Found New Hardware Wizard is Displayed, click Next.
    
19. After Windows is finished searching for the driver, make sure the first driver in the list is selected and click Next.
    
20. Click Finish to complete the installation of the USB Memory Key.
    
21. Now that the USB Key and drivers are successfully installed, click OK.
    
22. Insert your Code Floppy and click Retrieve Code from Floppy Disk.Type in the system's Owner Name and Affiliation and Click Next.
    
23. Click Choose new Destination Folder… to modify the destination folder, then click Next.
    
24. Select the Program Group, and then click Next.
    
25. Confirm the Installation Options and when you are ready to begin the installation, Click Install.
    
26. The MIS 6.1 Installer setup progress will be displayed during the installation.
    
27. Click Close.
    
28. After the installation is complete, the Meta Imaging Series Administrator program is displayed. You can configure your Hardware Setting, Drop-ins, etc now, or choose to do it later. Click OK to complete the Installation.
    
29. Use the Meta Imaging Series Updater utility to install the update you previously downloaded.
