Install Meta Imaging Series 6.0

Instructions for Installation of Meta Imaging Series 6.0

In order to ensure that the installation onto your imaging system goes as smoothly as possible, we ask that you take the following steps prior to installing Meta Imaging Series Software.

For information on installing the USB key on a computer running under Windows XP Professional SP1, please follow this link.

1. Operating System

The preferred operating system for Meta Imaging Series 6.0 is Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP3. Version 6.0 of Meta Imaging Series will also run under Windows XP Professional SP1. The software will not run under Windows 95, Windows Millenium, Windows 98, or Windows NT.

Meta Imaging Series Software is not supported under Windows 2000 Server nor Windows NT Server.

2. Before Installation

  • Back up your existing Meta Imaging Series installation. Typically, this can be done by recording the c:\mm directory to a CD-R.
  • Check the Meta Imaging Series Updates web site at www.meta.moleculardevices.com for any updates to your version and download them, to have them available for installation once the software has been installed. You can also view release notes (what’s new) on this web site.
  • Using MetaMorph or MetaFluor, make sure that any protocol files, spatial calibrations, Integrated Morphometry Analysis settings, state files, or other configurations have been saved to a file using the "Save" button in each appropriate dialog box. For Multi-User configurations, each user must save their own settings.
  • Using either Video Manager (Versions 4.0, 4.1.x and 4.5.x) or the Meta Series Administrator (Version 4.6.x) open up the configuration dialog for each camera that you have installed and make careful note of the configuration settings. Should a power loss or other unforeseeable mishap cause the installation of your new version to be interrupted, it may be necessary for you to re-configure your cameras using this information.
  • If your existing Meta Imaging Series version is 3.0, 3.5 or 3.6 or earlier, you need to consider these two options:
    1. If you want to upgrade (i.e., overwrite) your existing installation of our software, you first need to upgrade to version 4.0. You will need to contact Customer Support to obtain the necessary CD and code. Please call or email us at support.dtn@moldev.com and include the text: “Need interim 4.0 upgrade in order to do a 5.0 installation.”
    2. You can install Version 5.0 to new directory, not overwriting the existing installation. However, you will have to configure Version 5.0 from scratch as it will not have access to the existing installation’s configuration information.
  • Please review the following list of dropins and hardware device drivers that are not included under Version 5.0 to make certain that you are not using any of these currently.

Hardware Drivers and their Dropins Not Included:
    • Noran Odyssey
    • National Instruments NIDAQ
    • MuTech MV-1000 Acquisition Hardware
    • DVP-32 Acquisition Option
    • Matrox Image-LC Acquisition Hardware
    • MetaMorph Photon Counting Option
    MetaMorph Dropins Not Included:
    • MetaMorph Scan Multiple Plates Option
    • CRI Polscope
  • Meta Imaging Series software is matched with specific versions of software from the vendors of imaging boards and other imaging-related equipment. Please do not install software obtained from the manufacturer of your camera, imaging board or other imaging-related equipment without consulting your local Meta Imaging Series representative or Customer Support. We do not support the installation of such software; the results of its use are unpredictable, and can leave Meta Imaging Series software or Windows unstable. Correcting such problems might require reinstalling Windows, Meta Imaging Series software and all your other applications from scratch.

3. Install the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine Service Pack 3

Click here for information on how to download and install the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine Service Pack 3.

4. Do you have a USB Memory Key?

If you have a USB Memory Key, you must not have the key plugged in when you start up the installation program. This is because the installation program will update the key drivers, and if the USB key is present, it may be erased during the driver update. An erased key will have to be RMA’d, causing lost time and the expense of shipping. Once the installation program has finished updating the drivers, it will ask you for the key, and the USB key may be inserted at that time.

Note: If you are installing for the first time and you are using Windows XP Professional SP1, please read the information here.

5. Begin the installation

To install MetaMorph, insert your Meta Imaging Series CD into your CDROM drive. If the Installation Menu does not appear after a minute, select “Run” from the Start” menu and type d:\uicmenu.exe (where d is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). Click on Install Meta Imaging Series 6.0 and follow the instructions.

Click here if the parallel port memory key is not recognized.

6. If You Need Further Assistance...

As always, if you run into any problems during the installation process or you want some advice prior to performing the installation, please contact your local sales representative.

If you do not know how to contact your local Meta Imaging Series representative, please refer to the Dealer Locator on our Website under the Sales menu.

You can contact Customer Support by telephone at +1-610-873-5610 ext. 3, by email at support.dtn@moldev.com, or by opening a Support Incident at our Support Online Web site at support.meta.moleculardevices.com.
