Instructions for Installation Troubleshooting Parallel Port Memory Keys

What to do if your Parallel Port Memory Key is not Recognized

On some systems, the Memory Key will not be recognized during the installation of the software, this is particularly true if the Memory Key is installed on a 2nd parallel port on a SiiG port expansion card. If you get an error message where the key cannot be found, please follow this procedure:

  • Open the System applet in the Control Panel of Windows. Go to the Hardware tab and press the Device Manager button.
  • From the Device Manager, choose Ports and then highlight the parallel port (whichever port has the Memory Key). This may appear as follows:
  • Double click to get the properties page for that port, which will appear similar to this:
  • Write down the Input/Output Range setting. In the example picture above, the setting value is “03BC”.
  • Cancel out of the properties page and close the System control panel and close the Control Panel window.
  • Use Explorer to navigate to the Sentinel System Driver folder which is inside the Rainbow Technologies folder which is inside the Program Files folder which is on your C: drive. For example, see the following screen shot.
  • Double-click the SetupSysDriver application. The Sentinel System Driver application will start. It appears below.
  • Press the Configure Driver button. The Sentinel Driver configuration screen appears. A picture of it is below.

  • If the Memory Key is not found, it is most likely because the parallel port that the key is plugged into is not listed in the table. You can add it to the table by pressing the Add button. This will bring up a dialog like the following:
  • Set Use this port? to “Yes”. Enter as the Bus Address the numbers and letters you wrote down earlier, from the Control Panel. In this example it is “3bc”. Note that if the number starts with a 0, the leading 0 can be omitted. Set the Bus Type to “ISA” if the 2nd parallel port is on an ISA card, or “PCIBus” if the parallel port is on a PCI card. Press OK.
  • Now that the port has been added, you can “OK” out of all the dialogs and close out of the Sentinel software. Re-run the Meta Imaging Series Version 5.0 Setup Program (this can be accomplished by ejecting and re-inserting the 5.0 CD-ROM) and the install should proceed normally.
